To complement our long-running summer school we have offered occasional specialist weekend workshops. the success of these has led students to request more. So for 2009  we are holding four weekend workshops concentrating on different aspects of production here at Ridge Pottery.

The weekend workshops do not include firing of finished work. Arrangements can be made for firing or participants can take away their work for the cost of the clay. These are very much ‘learn as you make’ workshops in which it is the learning rather than the production that is important, in contrast to the complete potting courses that we run in the summer.

  • Basic Throwing 1 and 2
    February 21st-22nd and October 3rd-4th
Each weekend will be 2 days of intensive wheel work for beginners/improvers. With a mixture of group demonstration and one to one instruction.  Great strides in skills and appreciation can be made in a short time.
As ever we will be using our renowned Donyatt clay which we mix here at the pottery. For students new to our pottery, you will be working in a purpose built studio with first class wheels and equipment
    .
  • Advanced Throwing
    April 4th-5th
Two days of stretching the clay and yourself, pushing back the boundaries and having fun with thrown forms! Manipulating surfaces, altering forms, adding shape to shape and taking clay to the limits. Rediscover the timeless and limitless possibilities of the non-round pot using little known traditional practices and techniques. Explore forms you won't have thought possible. Both flat and hollow ware to be covered.

  • Big pots, joined pots
    March 7th-8th
A regular favourite here at Queen Camel, making bigger pots without having to get bigger muscles. Expand your control and add scale to your creating.
Techniques from around the world allow you to make much bigger pots without being a sumo wrestler.
